After my little episode with the ladybug and the haircut she gave herself, I knew that I would have to find a way to keep a closer eye on her. I now needed to know what she was doing and where she is at all times. This to me was a must, so I did some research for companies that offer network cameras and D- Link was a name that popped up quite frequently, so of course I was interested in learning more about the company and the products they offer.
D-Link delivers a wide range of powerful networking and connectivity solutions designed to bring exceptional value to business at the enterprise, workgroup, and departmental processing levels.
D-Link switching and connectivity products are a dominant force in business environments, delivering increased network performance and scalability, while decreasing costs over time for the information technology (IT) manager and decision maker.
D-Link delivers powerful solutions for deploying or upgrading to Gigabit Ethernet throughout an entire network including server farms, ISP backbone and campus-wide connectivity.
D- Link gave me the opportunity to try one of their network cameras, The DCS-930L Wireless N Network Camera. The DCS-930L is an enabled Wireless N Network Camera that can be set up very quickly to add an extra eye in those rooms that you need to have under control at any or certain time.
The setup is relatively easy, you have to run the setup program and the installation wizard that will guide you through the whole process, the commands can be a little confusing for someone that is not too tech savvy, so I had my husband finish up the configuration and after about 5 minutes the camera was set up and ready to go.
You will have to plug in your camera into your router so it can recognize the camera, this just takes a few seconds. After that operation is finished, you can plug your camera into any electric outlet and it should be good to go and be able to work with your wireless router!
In order to view your camera, you will have to sign up to the D-Link website ( painless and easy ), and there you will find all the options available for your camera. The camera is very simple to operate and has a zoom in and zoom out option along with a 100% zoom. The microphone and sound are also really good. The camera looks very simple, but does a lot more than what I was expecting it to do … I now get to keep an eye and ear on the ladybug when she’s alone in her room.
For more computer savvy users ( like my husband), the camera comes with D-Link D-ViewCam™ management software for Windows PCs. D-ViewCam has a great selection of features including the ability to record directly from the camera to a local hard drive, trigger motion detection, set recording schedules, set e-mail alert notifications, and even support for up to 32 cameras……I was really impressed and it was not until I was playing with the camera for a bit that I discovered this software which I must add is really nice and changes a lot of the capabilities of the camera.
Another great feature that I have not tried yet, is that the D-ViewCam also allows you to upload a floor plan of your home or small business and create a realistic layout of where your cameras are located, providing you with better access to your camera. For even greater recording flexibility, D-ViewCam can record video directly to a Network Attached Storage (NAS) device, eliminating the need for a dedicated computer to store video. Once you install the software you will see right on the screen that you have the option to split the screen so you can switch from one camera to another if you have more than one device installed……Really neat.
The camera can be accessed through different devices besides your computer; they offer an iPhone and android app so that you can view the camera wherever you are. Image quality and resolution is really good and you can notice a small delay when zooming in and out but nothing too bad. One more thing that makes this unit nice is the price, at only 79.99(in their product page, the camera shows as a 120.00 value, but when you add it to the cart, it is only 79.99). They Are having a Back to School special price on this great wireless surveillance camera. The price is great and you get a lot for your buck. The price tag makes it really accessible, I thought it was a good deal at 120.00, but the reduced prize makes it a great deal!
