This holiday season I want to introduce you to a personal favorite board game called You've been Sentenced!
I received the “You’ve been Sentenced” game a couple of years ago and we took it with us when on our Holiday trip to Ohio. The board game was creating quite a buzz and I was really looking forward to see what all the commotion was about….I gave the game that came with some extra add on decks that they have so kindly sent me to review to DH as part of his Christmas present. I figured that if mister picky liked the game then we had a winner.
We took the game over to Grammy’s house and set up a table to start playing…There were 4 players at the table (I was just watching), the players were ages 20- 44, ( the game is for kids 8 and up....They were all over that age , but had fun as an 8 years old!), all of them very smart and board game lovers. So the You’ve been Scented Game had a really tough judging crew…..The game started and no longer than a minute or two after and the laughs started.
All players agreed that the game is just awesome, and even though there were a few other games to play with, they played three rounds of the You’ve been Sentenced in the row…So yes, I think we have a winner!
Let me tell you about this really great and inexpensive way to have your whole family having fun and learning without leaving the comfort of your living room. To play the game:
1. Everyone draws 10 cards face down.
2. When everyone is ready, turn your cards over and spread them out on the table in front of you. .
3. Using the words on the cards, build the best sentence you can that is both grammatically correct and makes some sort of sense. YOU DO NOT HAVE TO USE ALL 10 CARDS!
4. The first person done starts the timer. Once you start the timer, you can’t touch your cards. Everyone else can until the timer runs out.
5. When time is up, if you started the timer, read your sentence to the other players.
6. If no one objects to the grammar or sensibility, you get the points for the words used in your sentence.
7. If someone Objects, explain and defend your sentence. Everyone other than the objector and defender then votes. Majority thumbs-up, you get the points. Thumbs-down… Zero points. Ties go to you, and you get the points.
8. Next person clockwise takes their turn. When everyone has read and voted on the sentences, everyone discards their hand, draws 10 new cards, and starts a new round.
9. First person with the highest score over 200 at the end of a round WINS!
I had a blast just by listening to the kind of sentences they were coming up with! This is a game that we for sure will play over and over again. And if you are planning on having friends over and want to find a really great activity to keep everybody entertained and having a great time, I highly recommend that you get your You’ve Been Sentence game. I am sure you will love it as much as we all did!
