As you all probably know by now, DH has big allergy problems and you will probably know that my apartment is 90% carpeted, so a good vacuum cleaner is essential in my house…..Now there are a lot of things that I need to consider when looking for a vacuum cleaner, the first one being DH’s allergies and closely followed by my back problems, so a heavy vacuum in totally out of the equation.

Founded by David Oreck in 1963, the Oreck Corporation began as a manufacturer of upright vacuum cleaners for the U.S. hotel industry. Today, the company produces and sells vacuums, steam mops, floor machines, air purifiers and cleaning products for use in both hotels and homes throughout the U.S., Canada and parts of Europe.

I am always looking for vacuums that offer great quality and that can have the job I need done…..I have 90% carpeted floors, so of course I need my vacuum cleaner to be efficient. I have been able to review a few different vacuum cleaners and my latest review was on the Oreck Pilot.
I have reviewed a few different products from Oreck and each time I have been very impressed. My biggest find from the Oreck House and one of my favorite review products ever was the Oreck Orbiter. So I was very excited to try the Pilot Vacuum cleaner.

The Oreck Pilot which is one of the Forever Series Vacuum cleaners (Limited Lifetime warranty- Oreck will repair or replace, free of charge to the original purchaser, any part (other than edge brushes, brushrolls, and disposable inner bags) that is found to be defective in material or workmanship for the lifetime of the product. This lifetime limited warranty applies to normal domestic use. Any commercial use of this product will void this limited warranty.

One of my favorite features of this vacuum cleaner is for sure the weight. The Oreck Forever Series Pilot weighs about 10 lbs. making the vacuum one of the lightest full-size vacuums on the market. Great for people with back issues as the vacuum cleaner is not only very light weight compared with many other vacuum cleaners, but also is very easy to maneuver. I actually found this vacuum to be extremely easy to use. It gets really low so I can get the vacuum under the furniture and the turns are easily made.

The comfort handle on the vacuum cleaner got Oreck the Ease-of-Use Commendation from The Arthritis Foundation. One more thing I absolutely love about the vacuum cleaner is the 35-ft. long power cord that allows you to use the vacuum cleaner without needing to constantly change the power outlet during the process.

The ball-joint and pivot connection design protects your furniture from involuntary vacuum bumps….This vacuum cleaner really does have some great features and among those features is the two-speed power control and an energy-efficient motor, that allows you to use the high speed on carpet and the low speed is great for more delicate surfaces like rugs. I also found that the vacuum does a great job on other flat surfaces, even though the main use for any vacuum in my house will be carpets and rugs. The switch is right on the handle so you do can easily do the switch without the need stop……One thing that I have found that I prefer over my bag free vacuum, is that if something gets stuck in the suction tub, I have to rush to the canister to turn the machine off….By having the switch on the handle I do not have to do this and that is a plus in my book.

The vacuum utilizes double-wall vacuum bags …..Now at first I had my doubts about what would be best for me, a bag free or a vacuum with bags…...I have a very popular brand bag free vacuum and I have found that the vacuum develops a really nasty odor and the canister can be messy when you are dumping the contents…….So far I have not had this issue with any of the Oreck vacuums I have tried. One more thing I considered was the extra cost of the bags, but after a quick calculation, the bags really are not bad at all. You can buy 12 double-wall vacuum bags with one micro-filter for 14.99 and 3.95 for shipping , so that is really not a bad deal, especially for allergy sufferers and pet owners.

The Pilot is also very easy to set up and has a really attractive design, so you can add the look to the list of things I like about the vacuum cleaner. I do not want to forget to mention the super smooth glide on the vacuum.

The Oreck Pilot Forever Series has a retail price of 599.99 and free shipping. While the vacuum price can be a bit high for some budgets, one thing to consider, is that with the new lifetime limited warranty on the vacuum, Oreck backs up their products to last a long time so, it could end up being a matter of getting a more inexpensive vacuum and having to replace it more often than you would do with the Oreck Vacuum.
