Are you one of those people that need some kind of noise to go to sleep? Personally, I always thought that the quieter the room the better, but just a few weeks ago I received a sleep sound therapy system from SOUND+SLEEP to try …..I have to admit that my idea of the quieter the better has changed A LOT!

I have always had problems getting to sleep even when I lived in Spain. I had periods of time that I could only sleep 2-3 hours and would go like that for like a week until I crashed and slept for almost a day and the cycle started all over again….I saw the doctor on different occasions and the result was always a prescription for sleeping pills…..I was not willing to get hooked on those, so I never filled any of my prescriptions.

After moving to the states, that problem seems to have disappeared until a couple of months ago when I started to wake up at 3:00 am and was not able to go back to sleep…Still not willing to take sleeping pills, I was really happy to try the SOUND+SLEEP   Machine.

The unit is small and can be compared to the size of a small clock/radio so it will not be out of place in whatever room or décor style you have. Setting the machine up is a breeze as all you need to do is find the right place you want it and plug the machine into the AC outlet!


SOUND+SLEEP offers ten different sounds scenarios that goes from a fireplace, to a running train, to the sound of rain falling to one of my personal favorites…..A meadow. The sounds are very life like. The unit’s built-in computer and microphone continuously “listen” for intruding noises in your surroundings in the adaptive mode and dynamically adds sounds to the SoundStory and automatically adjusts volume to offer superior sound masking or neutralizing capabilities….. The great thing is that the machine is really sensitive and if there is any noise at all., the machine adapts the volume, so the SoundStory remains as the main sound in the room……..As soon as the intruding noise subsides, SOUND+SLEEP gradually and automatically returns to normal playback settings!

The recordings are continuous and so live like that you most likely recognize the sounds without reading the names on the unit. As I mentioned before one of my favorites is the Meadow as you can hear the wind going through the trees and some of the sounds you can expect to hear in that type of environment that I find very relaxing. It is almost like going on vacation to the country side while you are sleeping. Two other favorites are the falling rain and the fireplace sounds. I found that even if I wake up in the middle of the night it is easier to go back to sleep to those sounds.

The unit is really easy to operate, so much so that the ladybug turn’s it on and chooses her SoundStory whenever she feels like it (she is 4 ½ now).

Each one of the different SoundStories has a library of dozens of enhancing sounds. The “Richness” setting regulates how many sounds are added to increase the base SoundStory. Real-time variations introduced when Richness is increased make SOUND+SLEEP SoundStories appear nearly unlimited.

Among the easy to control features in the machine, you will find the ability to turn the Adaptive Mode OFF and ON; four sleep timers with automatic, gradual off; and the ability to turn display lights off which I must add I love as do not like any type of lights on when I am going to sleep…while I usually leave the machine on all night, the timer allows you to add 30 minutes intervals with the push of a button.

My sleep pattern has improved since I started using the machine and as I mentioned before even if I do wake up, it is easier to go back to sleep, so if you are looking for something that does not includes a prescription to help you sleep through the night, I highly recommend the Sound of Sleep machine!
